Veteran railroad executive Doug Christy of Ukiah has been named the new general manager of the North Coast Railroad Authority, the public agency that oversees freight operations on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad.

Christy, 47, has been the NCRA assistant general manager since May 2001. He replaces Max Bridges.

The 273-mile publicly owned NWP runs from Schellville near Sonoma to Eureka. The line is still undergoing repairs to fix damage caused by the El Nino storms of 1998. No reopening date has been set.

The NCRA is also moving its headquarters next year from the Cloverdale Train Depot to the historic Ukiah Depot.
